Chemical Properties
Citric acid anhydrous powder is non-toxic and has a low reactivity. It is chemically stable if stored at ambient temperatures.
Physical properties
Citric acid anhydrous powder occurs as colourless crystals or as white, crystalline powder with a strongly acidic taste. It is very soluble in water, freely soluble in ethanol (96 %) and sparingly soluble in ether.
Uses
Citric acid anhydrous powder is typically used as a buffer component in biomolecule downstream processing and liquid formulation.
Safety
Citric Acid Anhydrous is generally safe in smaller quantities but it can cause severe hazardous reactions in large quantities.
Usage restrictions
In Europe, citric acid anhydrous powder is listed as generally permitted food additive (E330) and may be added to all foodstuffs, following the “quantum satis“ principle, as long as no special regulation restricts the use.
First aid
In case of inhaling Citric Acid Anhydrous. allow the person to rest and breathe fresh air. In case of eye
contact, rinse under tap water for few minutes & remove any contact lenses if present.
If a large quantity of Citric Acid Anhydrous is ingested, rinse the mouth & seek medical attention immediately.
