D-Xylose, commonly called wood sugar, is a natural 5-carbon sugar (pentose) obtained from Corn Core. Its sweetness is 67% of sucrose. Xylose has similar chemical properties to glucose, and it can be reduced to corresponding alcohol, i.e. xylitol, or oxidized into 3-hydroxy glutarate.
