Terbinafine Hydrochloride Cream: Indications, Usage and Adverse Reactions
Sep 4,2024
Indications
Terbinafine Hydrochloride Cream is an FDA-approved antifungal medication used for the treatment of topical skin fungal infections such as tinea pedis, ringworm, jock itch, lichen planus, and candida skin infections. It is also available in tablets for the treatment of fungal nail infections and other fungal infections. In addition, it is available in other preparations such as gels, sprays and solutions. It is a BCS Class II drug with low bioavailability. Therefore, researchers have developed additional microgel topical formulations. Terbinafine hydrochloride microcapsules were formulated using carbopol 940 and HPMC as gelling agents, oleic acid as lipid, parabens as preservatives and Tween 20 as emollient and penetration enhancer. Microgels offer several advantages as a drug delivery technology over simple conventional formulations, including ease of administration, longer residence time at the site of use, stable drug release with improved bioavailability, better thermodynamic stability, and excellent transdermal permeability. However, there is a lack of clinical efficacy verification.
Usage
Firstly, before applying Terbinafine Hydrochloride Cream we need to wash and dry our hands and the area to be applied. Then squeeze a small amount of cream onto your fingers and apply it to the infected area (apply a thin layer to the skin) once or twice a day for 1 to 2 weeks. Never avoid putting it near your mouth, lips, or eyes. Keep the lid closed and wash your hands promptly after use.
Adverse Reactions
Common side effects of Terbinafine Hydrochloride Cream are burning, irritation or itching of the skin in the area of application may occur. Prolonged use may affect male fertility, primarily by affecting the integrity of DNA spermatozoa. However, further studies are needed to confirm this and to determine where in the genitourinary tract the DNA changes occur. Severe allergic reactions are rare. Seek medical help if any serious adverse reactions occur.
