蘇拉明鈉是一種可逆的競爭性蛋白酪氨酸磷酸酶 (PTPases) 抑制劑。蘇拉明鈉是有效的 sirtuins 抑制劑：SirT1 (IC50=297 nM)，SirT2 (IC50=1.15 μM)，SirT5 (IC50=22 μM)。蘇拉明鈉是競爭性逆轉(zhuǎn)錄酶抑制劑 (DNA topoisomerase II: IC50=5 μM)。蘇拉明鈉有效抑制 IP5K，并且是抗寄生蟲 (antiparasitic)，抗腫瘤和抗血管生成劑。
蘇拉明鈉已經(jīng)被證實具有抗錐蟲病，抗腫瘤，防治眼部增殖性疾病，抗病毒，免疫調(diào)節(jié)劑的作用，并廣泛應(yīng)用于臨床實踐中。目前尚未有蘇拉明鈉具有抗雞球蟲作用的報導(dǎo)，通過蘇拉明鈉已知的性質(zhì)無法推斷其是否具有抗雞球蟲的作用。
蘇拉明鈉鹽，是一種丙型肝炎病毒 NS3 解旋酶抑制劑。 也用于治療因膠原蛋白問題引起的關(guān)節(jié)炎。

Suramin sodium salt (Suramin hexasodium salt; 50-600 μg/mL; for 24-96 hours) inhibits cells proliferation in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner and decreases viability in cancer cells.
Suramin sodium salt (300 μg/mL; for 48 hours) induces cells apoptosis and down-regulates mRNA expression in HeLa cells.
Suramin sodium salt (1 mg/mL; 1 hour) significantly suppresses the phosphorylated ERK1/2.
