Hazard Information | Back Directory | [General Description]
Ammonium citrate is a white granular solid. AMMONIUM CITRATE, DIBASIC(3012-65-5) is soluble in water. The primary hazard is the threat to the environment. Immediate steps should be taken to limit its spread to the environment. AMMONIUM CITRATE, DIBASIC(3012-65-5) is used in pharmaceuticals, and in chemical analysis. | [Reactivity Profile]
Salts, basic, such as AMMONIUM CITRATE, are generally soluble in water. The resulting solutions contain moderate concentrations of hydroxide ions and have pH's greater than 7.0. They react as bases to neutralize acids. These neutralizations generate heat, but less or far less than is generated by neutralization of the bases in reactivity group 10 (Bases) and the neutralization of amines. They usually do not react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents but such behavior is not impossible. | [Air & Water Reactions]
Water soluble. | [Health Hazard]
Inhalation causes respiratory irritation. Ingestion causes diarrhea. Contact with eyes causes mild irritation. | [Potential Exposure]
It is used to make pharmaceuticals;
rust-proofing compounds and plasticizers; as a food additive;
stabilizing agent. | [Fire Hazard]
Special Hazards of Combustion Products: Toxic ammonia gas may form in fire. | [First aid]
If this chemical gets into the eyes, remove any
contact lenses at once and irrigate immediately for at least
15 minutes, occasionally lifting upper and lower lids. Seek
medical attention immediately. If this chemical contacts
the skin, remove contaminated clothing and wash immediately
with soap and water. Seek medical attention immediately.
If this chemical has been inhaled, remove from
exposure, begin rescue breathing (using universal precautions,
including resuscitation mask) if breathing has
stopped and CPR if heart action has stopped. Transfer
promptly to a medical facility. When this chemical
has been swallowed, get medical attention. Give large
quantities of water and induce vomiting. Do not make an
unconscious person vomit. | [Shipping]
UN3077 Environmentally hazardous substances,

material, Technical Name Required. | [Incompatibilities]
Contact with strong caustics causes the
release of ammonia gas. | [Chemical Properties]
