In a 500 mL glass three-necked flask, 500 g (3.8 mol) of TCE was weighed. After replacing the inside of the system with nitrogen, the reaction solution was cooled by an ice bath. Then, Cl2 was introduced at 180 mL / min under stirring. After introducing 1.0 equivalent (270 g, 3.8 mol) of Cl2, Nitrogen was introduced to expel Cl2 remaining in the system. As a result, 723 g (yield 99%) of the target pentachloroethane was obtained as a colorless transparent liquid with a GC purity of 97.9%.
