Step 4: 2-Bromo-4-methylthiazole-5-carboxylic acid Copper (I) bromide (2.1 g, 14.62 mmol) and t-BuONO (6.5 g, 62.97 mmol) were added to a solution of 2-amino-4-methylthiazole-5-carboxylic acid (2 g, 11.38 mmol) in ACN (60 mL). The resulting solution was stirred for 2 h at reflux. The mixture was poured into water (100 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (3*100 mL). The organics were combined, dried over Na2SO4, and evaporated to afford 2 g (63%) of 2-bromo-4-methylthiazole-5-carboxylic acid as a yellow solid.
