Lamotrigine

Introduction Lamotrigine is a novel antiepileptic drug of the phenyltriazine class, which was launched domestically in2005. Its mechanism of action is to block presynaptic membrane voltage-gated sodium channels and inhibit pathological glutamate release, thereby suppressing glutamate action potential bursts and stabilizing neuronal cell membranes. As a broad-spectrum antiepileptic drug, lamotrigine is clinically used primarily as a mon or adjunctive therapy for partial and generalized epileptic seizures. It can also be used as a mood stabilizer for the treatment of bipolar disorder type I. Mechan of action Lamotrigine is a voltage-dependent sodium channel blocker, and its main mechanism of action against epilepsy is: ① inhibition of voltage-dependent type II Na channels, stabilization of cell membranes, and suppression of abnormal neuronal cell discharges; ② stabilization of presynaptic membranes and inhibition of the release ofatory neurotransmitters, especially glutamate; ③ inhibition of voltage-gated calcium channels.
