Allgemeine Beschreibung
Lactosylceramide (LacCer) is a glycosphingolipid. It consists of a hydrophobic?ceramide?lipid and a hydrophilic sugar moiety. LacCer is expressed abundantly in the nervous system and myelin sheath.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Lactosylceramide (LacCer) is a structural and signaling lipid. It is implicated in signal transduction, cell adhesion and host-tissue pathogen interactions. LacCer modulates cell proliferation and apoptosis. It is involved in regulating cellular stress response and microbial pathogenesis. LacCer regulates innate immune responses. It helps in microbial attachment and also acts as an adhesion receptor for pathogens.
