depsides: A class of compoundsformed by condensation of a phenoliccarboxylic acid (such as gallic acid)with a similar compound, the reactionbeing between the carboxylicacid group on one molecule and aphenolic OH group on the other.Depsides are similar to esters, exceptthat the OH group is linked directlyto an aromatic ring. In such compounds, the -O-CO- group is called adepside linkage. Depsides are foundin tannins and other natural products.
