Complexation abilities of 2,2′-dipyridyl
N,N′-dioxide (2,2′-bipyridyl-
N,N′-dioxide, bipyO
2) as a ligand towards zinc has been compared with 2,2′-bipyridine. Novel lanthanide (Eu
3+, Tb
3+, Gd
3+, Sm
3+ and Dy
3+) complexes of bipyO
2 were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectrum. Electron density study of halogen-bonded complex of bipyO
2 with 1,4-diiodotetrafluorobenzene (F
4dIb) at 90K by X-ray diffraction has been reported.
