One of the Vinca alkaloids, this complex base occurs in V. rosea L. It may be purified by recrystallization from MeOH when it forms colourless blades. It is 1aevorotatory with [o:)fi6 - 61 ° (c 1.0, CHC13) and gives an ultraviolet spectrum having two absorption maxima at 267 and 308 ffiP.. The structure is that of leurosine Nb-oxide.
