Obtained by reaction of methyl iodide with 2,4,6-trihydroxy-3-(1-oxoethyl)benzaldehyde in the presence of potassium hydroxide in methanol at 70° (50%)
Also prepared by interaction of C-methylphloroacetophenone, zinc cyanide and hydrogen cyanide in ethyl ether saturated at 0°, for 24 h followed by rapid heating to boiling of the aldimine salt with water
Also obtained by reaction of acetyl chloride with 2-formyl-4-methylphloroglu-cinol in the presence of aluminium chloride at 0° and at r.t. for 48 h, then at 60° for 1 h.
