White Solid | [Uses]
A derivative of Pleuromutilin. Antibacterial. | [Uses]
Tiamulin is a semi–synthetic analogue of pleuromutilin in which the hydroxyacetyl side chain is replaced with a larger diethylaminoethylthioacetyl moiety, providing greater hydrophobicity. The hemi-fumarate provides a stable salt with improved water solubility. Tiamulin is a potent and highly selective antibiotic active against a range of Gram positive bacteria, with no cross resistance to existing antibiotic classes due to its unique mode of action of inhibiting protein synthesis by binding to domain V of 23S rRNA. | [Application]

Tiamulin fumarate is mainly used for Mycoplasma suis pneumonia, Haemophilus parasuis, infectious pleuropneumonia and dysentery caused by Treponema swine, and also for chronic respiratory tract of poultry, Mycoplasma pneumonia, infectious rhinitis, Escherichia coli, duck Infectious serositis. | [General Description]
Sigma-Aldrich offers tiamulin fumarate for a variety of applications that include, but are not limited to, environmental, food and beverage, forensics, petrochemical and pharmaceutical analyses. Purity of the chemical is about 99% unless otherwise stated. | [Health Hazard]
Inhalation may irritate (cough, short breathing, difficulty in breathing). Headache.
It may cause moderate irritation, including a burning sensation, tearing, redness, or swelling. Itching.
Causes serious eye irritation. Redness, itching, tears. Stinging.
It may cause irritation to the digestive tract. Abdominal pain, nausea.

Tiamulin fumarate is a bacteriostatic antibiotic belonging to the pleuromutilin class, which inhibit protein synthesis by targeting the 50S bacterial ribosomal subunit and binding to peptidyl transferase, the enzyme responsible for forming peptide bonds between amino acids. |
