Microwave-assisted synthesis method
General procedure: Substituted thiophthalimide derivatives 2a-2j (1 mmol)with amines 3a-3c (4 mmol) were ground thoroughly andthen taken into a 10 cm3 pressure tube and subjected tomicrowave heating (CEM discover) in the presence of2-ethoxyethanol (b-ee, neat). The reaction vessel wassealed and heated in microwave for 30-180 min at 50 C.The process of the reaction was displayed by TLC at regularintervals on silica gel with a mixture of hexane andethyl acetate (4:1) as the eluent. Next, the mixture wasextracted with ethyl acetate (2 9 10 cm3) and the combinedorganic layer was dried over anhydrous sodiumsulfate. After completion of the reaction, the solvent wasevaporated and the residue was purified by column chromatographyon a silica gel using generally hexane as eluentto afford the pure products 4.
