To 2000ml with mechanical stirring, thermometer, reflux condenser, add 117g of m-toluonitrile, 800g of water, and 200g of sodium hydroxide solution with a mass fraction of 30% to the four-neck flask of the heating device, and start stirring. The temperature was raised to 100 °C and the reaction was carried out under reflux for 4h. Then, hydrochloric acid with a mass fraction of 30% was added dropwise to adjust the pH to 1. After cooling to room temperature, it was filtered, washed with water, filter and dry to get 134g m-toluic acid, the reaction yield at this step was 98.5%.
