General procedure: For three parallel reactions, complex 1(6.1mg, 10.0 tmol) and H[BAr’4](Et2O)2 (10.1 mg, 10.0 tmol) were dissolved in THF (2.0 mL) in a thick-walled glass vessel equipped with a Teflon stopcock and a stir bar. Acetophenone (60 mg, 0.5 mmol) was then added and hexamethylbenzene (0.1 mmol) was also added as internal standard. The reaction mixture was degassed by freeze-pump-thaw and charged with 1 atm (or 4 atm) of hydrogen gas. The resulting solution was stirred at 25° C. or 60° C. for 4 hours (see Equation 5), and then stopped in order to compare relative reaction rates.
