10 ml of ethanol and 354 mg (2.90 mmol) of 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine were added to dichloromethane (100 ml) solution of 5.0 g (29.0 mmol) of (3,5-difluorophenyl)acetic acid. After cooling with ice, 6.68 g (34.9 mmol) of 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride was added thereto, and stirred for 22 hours with graduallywarming up to room temperature. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and ethyl acetate and 1 N hydrochloric acid were added to the residue. The organic layer separated was washed with aqueous saturated sodium bicarbonate solution and brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. After filtrating and concentrating under reduced pressure, 27.3 g (quantitative) of the entitled compound was obtained as a pale yellow oil. MS(FAB)m/z:201(M+).1H-NMR(CDCl3)δ: 1.27(3H, t, J=7.1Hz), 3.59(2H, s), 4.17(2H, q, J=7.1H), 6.67-6.87(3H, m).
