General procedure: To a solution of substituted aniline (0.1 mol) dissolved in 48 mL glacial acetic acid and 96 mL H2O, sodium cyanate (13 g, 0.2 mol) in warm water (90 mL) was added with continuous stirring. The mixture was warmed to 50 C for 2 h and then cooled in ice, The crude solid, thus obtained was filtered, dried, and recrystallized with boiling water.
