Steps:
1 Step 1: Preparation of 4-bromobutanoyl chloride
Into a 250-mL round-bottom flask, was placed 4-bromobutanoic acid (10.0 g, 59.88 mmol, 1.00 equiv), dichloromethane (100 mL), N,N-dimethylformamide (0.15 mL). This was followed by the addition of thionyl chloride (8.5 mL) dropwise with stirring at 0. The resulting solution was stirred for 4 h at room temperature. The resulting mixture was concentrated under vacuum. This resulted in 11.08 g (100%) of 4-bromobutanoyl chloride as light yellow oil.
