A mixture of 2,4,6-trimethoxy-l,3,5-tnazine of formula Vila (34 g, 0.2 mol) and OH (14 g, 0.25 mol) in MeOH (150 ml) was heated up to boiling for 20 h. After cooling down to the room temperature the solvent was evaporated in vacuo and the distillation residue was put in water (50 ml). The mixture was acidified with AcOH to pH ~6 at a temperature below 15°C. The separated product was aspirated, washed with H20 (2 x 35 ml) and dried at the room temperature and pressure. 2-Hydroxy-4,6-dimethoxy-l,3 5-triazine of formula Via was obtained as a colorless crystalline substance (27 g, 87%). 1H-NMR (250 MHz, DMSO-d6): 12.42 (bs, 1 H), 3.86 (s, 6 H; OCH3) ppm. 13C-NMR (63 MHz, DMSO-d6): 168.1, 157.3, 55.2 ppm. HPLC (200 nm): Rt = 1.475 min.
