Steps:
procedure for the preparation of aromatic carboxylic acid chlorides
General procedure: The appropriate aromatic carboxylic acid (0.01 mol), thionyl chloride SOCl2 (1.6 mL, 0.02mol) and a dry toluene (40 mL) were heated at reflux until the disappearance of the carboxylic acid was fully completed (TLC; 2-8 h). After cooling, the mixture was concentrated on a rotary evaporator. The crude products were distilled under reduced pressure to yield the adequate pure acid chlorides (3a-h).
