Steps:

Put 1.4kg of p-methoxybenzoylchloride into the reaction kettle, add 1kg of 2-ethylbenzofuran and 8.84kg of dichloromethane, and then cool to a temperature ≤5 add 1 molar equivalent of polystyrene-supported aluminum trichloride (prepared by the existing published literature method), stir at room temperature for 1 hour, add a water layer, and extract the water layer twice with dichloromethane. The extracts were combined, washed with 10% by mass sodium hydroxide solution and 10% by mass hydrochloric acid, and then washed with saturated brine until it was neutral. Dehydrate with anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrate the dichloromethane extract. The concentrated liquid is cooled to below 10°C, crystals are precipitated, filtered, washed twice with absolute ethanol, filtered dry, cooled to crystallize, and filtered. After drying, 4-methoxyphenyl-(2-ethyl-3-benzofuranyl)methanone was obtained with a yield of 98%.
