3 Synthesis of 2-Amino-5-bromobenzenesulfonamide

To a suspension of 2-aminobenzenesulfonamide (Compound 3) (232.0 g, 1.34 mol) in acetic acid (2 L) was added dropwise a solution of bromine (216.0 g, 1.37 mol) in acetic acid (1 L) and stirred for 0.5 h.The resulting solution was poured into water to give a solid which was washed with water and dried in vacuo to give 300.0 g of a white solid 2-amino-5-bromobenzenesulfonamide (Compound 4) in a yield of 90%.
