In a 50mL two-necked flask, to which a pressure-resistant balloon filled with hydrogen gas was attached, 1.0 g of oxacycloheptadec-10-en-2-one (IV-2) (with a purity of 100%, 4.0 mmol) and 20 mg of Pd/C catalyst (5% Wet) were placed and then were dissolved in10 mL of methanol. The inside of the flask was subjected to pressure reduction with a vacuum line and then to hydrogen substitution. This was stirred at room temperature (25 degrees C) for three hours. The liquid obtained after completion of the reaction was subjected to gas chromatography quantitative analysis. As a result, it contained 0.99 g of oxacycloheptadecan-2-one (V-2) (3.9 mmol, yield 99.0%).
