Steps:

General Procedure for reduction of 2,5-diketopiperazines 3a-3p

General procedure: Diketopiperazines 2a-2p (0.5 mmol, 1 equiv) in THF (2 mL) were slowly added to an ice-cooled suspension of LiAlH₄ (4 mmol, 8 equiv) in THF (4 mL). The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. The reaction mixture was then quenched with saturated MgSO₄ solution (4 mL) and diethyl ether (6 mL). After filtration through celite, the solution was extracted with water (3 x 6 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO₄ and the solvent removed under reduced pressure. Compounds 3a-3p were isolated as a colourless oil.
