What is Ammonium Sulfate used for?
Nov 4,2024
The chemical formula of ammonium sulfate is (NH4)2SO4. It is a by-product of coking, caprolactam, acrylonitrile, ammonia desulfurization and other industries. It has become one of the main nitrogen fertilizer products in my country and the largest nitrogen fertilizer variety in export volume. Ammonium sulfate is a fast-acting nitrogen fertilizer, generally suitable for crops such as wheat, corn, rice, cotton, sweet potato, hemp, fruit trees, and vegetables. For soil, ammonium sulfate is most suitable for neutral soil and alkaline soil, and should not be used in acidic soil.
Properties
1. Physical properties: The appearance is colorless crystals or white particles, odorless. Decomposes above 280℃. It is hygroscopic and easy to solidify into blocks.
2. Chemical properties: Ammonium sulfate is easily soluble in water, the aqueous solution is acidic, and the pH value of the aqueous solution is 5.5.
Main uses
Agriculture: Ammonium sulfate is an important nitrogen fertilizer, suitable for various soils and crops, which can improve soil fertility, promote plant growth, and improve fruit quality and yield.
Industry: It is also widely used in textiles, leather, medicine and other fields. For example, it is used as a dyeing auxiliary in the textile industry; as a deashing agent in the leather industry; and in the pharmaceutical industry to make drugs.
Other fields: Ammonium Sulfate can also be used to make matches, fireworks, water treatment agents, lubricants and coolants in metal processing, etc. In addition, it is also used in chemical reagents, battery production, beer brewing, etc.
