What is a prednisolone used for?
Dec 23,2022
Prednisolone is a medicine used to treat a wide range of health problems including allergies, blood disorders, skin diseases, inflammation, infections and certain cancers and to prevent organ rejection after a transplant. It helps by reducing swelling (inflammation) and can also calm down your immune system.
Uses of Prednisolone
Prednisolone is a man-made form of a natural substance (corticosteroid hormone) produced by the adrenal glands. It is used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood problems, immune system disorders, skin and eye disorders, breathing problems, cancer, and severe allergies. It lowers the immune system's response to various ailments, reducing symptoms such as pain, swelling, and allergic reactions.
Side effects of Prednisolone
Nausea, heartburn, headache, dizziness, menstrual cycle changes, trouble sleeping, increased sweating, or acne may occur after taking prednisolone.
Because this drug works by weakening the immune system, it may reduce a patient's ability to fight infection. This may make patients more susceptible to serious (rarely fatal) infections or make any infection worse. Prolonged or repeated use of this medication may cause thrush or yeast infection.
In rare cases, this drug can raise a patient's blood sugar, which can cause or worsen diabetes.
Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including: chest pain, seizures.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
