Preparation method and application of potassium persulfate low-temperature disinfectant

Apr 22,2022

Background and overview

Potassium hydrogen persulfate is a super broad-spectrum disinfection product that is effective against viruses, bacteria, mycoplasmas, fungi and molds. The fifth-generation disinfectant is a new type of active oxygen disinfectant, which is suitable for various disinfections and has high safety.

Potassium monopersulfate composite powder is a white powdery substance at room temperature, which is easy to store and transport, has high stability, high water solubility and relatively low price. Overcome the leakage, overturning, explosion, corrosion and other safety hazards of other disinfectants; it can be stored at room temperature for two years.

When a single dose of potassium monopersulfate absorbs moisture or dissolves in water, it will rapidly decompose to release oxygen and potassium sulfate. Therefore, a single compound salt can not be used directly as a disinfectant, but can only be used as the main active ingredient to establish a balanced and stable system, which greatly improves its stability in solid state and greatly prolongs the product validity period. After dissolving in water, it releases active oxygen through free chain reaction, and then forms various active components such as hydroxyl radical and hydrogen peroxide radical, thus becoming a high-efficiency disinfectant.

Preparation

Add 100 kilograms of hydrogen peroxide (concentration: 50%) to the 500L reactor, start stirring and cool to about 5°C, slowly drop 140 kilograms of sulfuric acid (concentration: 65%) for oxidation reaction. The reaction temperature was 20°C, and the reaction time was 90 minutes. The reaction is completed, slowly drip 170kg potassium hydroxide aqueous solution (concentration is 48%) and carry out reaction (drip reaction period violent exothermic, control adding speed and cooling medium, prevent the danger that temperature is too high), reaction temperature 30 ℃, reaction 90 The reaction is completed within a few minutes at °C to obtain the target product, potassium hydrogen persulfate aqueous solution. The aqueous solution was cooled at a cooling rate of 1-5°C/hour, slowly cooled to -4°C for crystallization, filtered and dried to obtain 180 kg of potassium hydrogen persulfate product.

Use

Reduce the microbiological safety risk of drinking water: Potassium monopersulfate composite powder releases active oxygen [O] after dissolving in water, and generates various high-energy, high-activity small molecule free radicals through chain reaction through high-energy activators , new ecological atomic oxygen, oxygen radicals, hydroxyl radicals ( OH), sulfuric acid radicals (SO4− ) and other active ingredients, thus becoming a highly efficient oxidative disinfectant, with a wide range of microbial killing effects, including bacteria, spores , virus, fungi and other water supply water bodies and the inactivation of chlorine-resistant bacteria in the water supply pipe network;

Decomposition of organic pollutants: Potassium monopersulfate composite powder dissolves in water and releases sulfuric acid radicals. The standard oxidation potential of sulfate radicals E0=2.5~3.1 can oxidize some organic pollutants that cannot be oxidized by hydroxyl radicals E0=2.80. It decomposes it into water, carbon dioxide and simple inorganic substances, degrades residual pesticides and heavy metals, and solves the problem of acute and chronic poisoning caused by chemical pollution.

Algae removal and algal toxin decomposition: The natural degradation process of algal toxins in water is very slow. When the content of algal toxins in water is 0.005mg/L, only 10% are absorbed by particles in the water body after three days, and 7% are precipitated with sediment. Algal toxins have high heat tolerance. Heating and boiling can neither destroy nor remove its toxins, and conventional tap water treatment processes (coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection) cannot effectively remove algal toxins in water. A large number of literatures and field experiments have shown that potassium monopersulfate compound salt can effectively remove algae and decompose algal toxins.
