General Description

2,2-Dibromo-2-cyanoacetamide(DBNPA) is an effective antimicrobial agent used in various industries, serving as an algicide, bactericide, and fungicide in applications like industrial water systems and metalworking fluids. Its versatility extends to preservatives in animal glues, latex paints, and agricultural pesticides.

Applications

2,2-Dibromo-2-cyanoacetamide is used for disinfection of food vessels and machinery. The recommended dosage is up to 4000 ppm with 60 min contact time. Food processing vessels are treated once a day or after each batch of food. The vessels must be first thoroughly washed and rinsed (to remove food residues). The DBNPA solution is then pumped into the vessel and left for up to 60 minutes. In bottles washing lines, the bottles are washed and rinsed prior to being disinfected and rinsed again. The bottles are treated continuously along a conveying belt in automated tunnels. The disinfection step lasts up to 60 minutes.

According to the harmonised classification and labelling (ATP17) approved by the European Union, 2,2-Dibromo-2-cyanoacetamide is fatal if inhaled, is toxic if swallowed, causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure, is very toxic to aquatic life, is very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects, causes serious eye damage, causes skin irritation and may cause an allergic skin reaction.
