The protein has a calculated MW of 35.6 kDa. The protein migrates as 65-80 kDa when calibrated against Star Ribbon Pre-stained Protein Marker under reducing (R) condition (SDS-PAGE) due to glycosylation.

血小板生成素（TPO）是一種332個氨基酸的糖蛋白，主要在肝臟中產(chǎn)生，是血小板產(chǎn)生的主要生理調節(jié)因子。TPO結合TPO受體，激活JAK和STAT通路，從而刺激巨核細胞生長和血小板生成。此外，進一步的研究發(fā)現(xiàn)，血小板生成素是促進骨髓消融后造血反彈的關鍵細胞因子，其轉錄物由多種細胞來源表達。
