ω- Agatoxin IVA is an effective selective P/Q type Ca2+channel blocker peptide with a sequence containing 48 amino acids and 4 pairs of disulfide bonds, ω- The IC50 of Agatoxin IVA for P-type and Q-type Ca2+channels is 2 nM and 90 nM, respectively. ω- Agatoxin IVA (IC50, 30-225 nM) inhibits high potassium induced glutamate exocytosis and calcium influx. ω- Agatoxin IVA can also prevent high potassium induced release of serotonin and norepinephrine, without affecting L-type or N-type calcium channels.
