A powerful fluorinating agent.1 Commonly applied in conversion of hydrocarbons to the perfluorocarbons such as fluorination of propane and propene,2 fluorination of 2-chlorodiethyl ether,3 fluorinations of pentafluoronitrobenzene and pentafluoro-benzaldehyde,4 and fluorination of trimethylamine.5 Employed in oxidative demethylation of 1,4-dimethoxynaphthalene and 1,4-dimethoxybenzene derivatives to afford the corresponding naphthoquinone and benzoquinone derivatives,6 and efficient oxidative N-dearylation of N-alkoxyphenyl-β-lactams to give N-unsubstituted β-lactams.7 Also used as a cathode material in rechargable Li cells,8 and for preparing tris[2-(propyliminomethyl)phenolato-κ2 N,O]cobalt(III) [Co(C10H12NO)3] from2-(propylimino-methyl)phenol.9
