Cresol is an orally active endogenous metabolite. Cresol is classified in Carcinogen Category 3?A due to its tumour-promoting properties in mouse skin, which has three isomers: o-Cresol, m-Cresol and p-Cresol used as cosmetic biocides/preservatives or fragrance ingredients. Cresols can be absorbed through skin, the respiratory tract and the digestive tract, then metabolized by the liver and excreted by the kidney as glucuronide and sulfate metabolites[1][2][3].

Result: Induced skeletal and external variations (o-cresol) and initial teratogenic effects (m-cresol) in rabbits.
Animal Model: Male Wistar rats[1]
Dosage: a mixture of m-cresol (160 mg/kg) and p-cresol (100 mg/kg)
Administration: a single gavage dose
Result: 50% of the administered doses of m-cresol and p-cresol were still found in the stomach after 15 minutes, while these were no longer detected after 8 hours in rats.
