Transcription inhibitor
REVIEW 8-Hydroxyquinoline is an antiseptic with mild fungistatic, bacteriostatic, anthelmintic, and amebicidal action. It has also been used as a reagent and metal chelator, as a carrier for radio-indium for diagnostic purposes, and its halogenated derivatives are used as topical anti-infective agents and oral antiamebics. The metal chelation complexes as well as the heterocycle itself exhibit antiseptic, disinfectant, and pesticide properties, functioning as a transcription inhibitor. Its solution in alcohol is used in liquid bandages. It once was of interest as an anti-cancer drug.
