Sodium thiocyanate is also known as sodium thiocyanate. Its structural formula is Na -- S -- C≡N. It is produced by the reaction of sodium cyanide and sulfur or is a by-product of desulfurization of coke oven gas. The chemical formula NaSCN. Molecular weight 81.07. White crystalline powder, easily deliqued in air. The product containing two crystal waters is a white acicular crystal. Relatively dense Chemicalbook degree 1.735. Melting point 287℃. Refractive index 1.625. Soluble in water, ethanol, acetone and other solvents. The aqueous solution is neutral and produces blood-red iron thiocyanide when met with iron salts, which does not react with ferrite salts. Toxic. Storage and transportation should be moisture-proof. Used as polyacrylonitrile fiber drawing solvent, color film washing agent, chemical analysis reagent.
