Mycophenolic acid

Overview of Mycophenolic Acid (MPA), also known as Mycophenolic Acid, has the chemical name-4-methyl-6-(1,3-dihydro-7-methyl-hydroxy-6-methoxy-3-oxo-5-isenzofuran)-4-hexenoic acid. It is the active metabolite of Mycophenolate Mofetil (MMF) in body and is a potent non-competitive inhibitor of Inosine Monophosphate Dehydrogenase (IMPDH). MPA can selectively inhibit lymphocyte, suppress the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes stimulated by mitogens and alloantigens, and also inhibit B lymphocytes from producing antibodies. Additionally,PA can block the migration of lymphocytes and monocytes to sites of rejection and inflammation by inhibiting the glycosylation of adhesion molecules on the surface ofocytes and monocytes that are involved in endothelial cell adhesion. Therefore, MPA has good antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, antumor, and immunosuppressive activities; it is commonly used in the treatment of heart and kidney transplant rejection and autoimmune diseases such as lupus nephritis andculitis.
