Natural products exist in wintergreen oil, Holly oil, birch oil, green tea seed oil, clove oil, mistletree oil, tuberose oil, small dang oil, tea oil, ylang ylang oil and other essential oils and cherry, apple, strawberry juice. Colorless or light yellow, or light yellow red transparent oily liquid. A strong aroma of Holly oil. Molecular weight 152.16. The relative density is 1.1738. Melting point -8.6℃. Boiling point 223.3℃. Flash point 96℃. Refractive index 1.5360. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, glacial acetic acid and other general organic solvents. It changes color easily when exposed to air. Rat transoral LD50887mg/kg. It is prepared by co-heating salicylic acid and methanol in the presence of sulfuric acid. Or distilled from Holly leaves of the heather family. Methyl salicylate can be used in the daily chemical flavor formula, mainly used in Chemicalbook to prepare ylang Ylang, tuberose, plain heart orchid, acacia, Fook Qi, plain orchid and other flavor. But its most common use is in flavoring toothpaste. IFRA has no restrictions. Methyl salicylate is recognized as GRAS by FEMA, FEMA number 2745, and the European Council includes methyl salicylate in the list of artificial food flavors that can be used in food without endangering human health, with a maximum dosage of 8,400 mg/kg and an ADI value of 0.5mg/kg. Methyl salicylate can be used in the food flavor formula, is China's GB2760-1996 provisions temporarily allowed the use of edible spices, ADI value 0 ~ 0.5, often used to prepare strawberry, vanilla, grapes and other fruit flavor used in food and beer, can also be used for fructose, soft drinks and other flavor. In addition, methyl salicylate is also used in preservatives, pesticides, polishing agents, ink, paint, polyester fiber dyeing carriers and other industrial fields.
