Cadmium sulfide is an inorganic compound of sulfur and cadmium with the chemical formula CdS. It is an N-type photoconductive semiconductor material. It belongs to Ⅱ-Ⅵ compound semiconductor. The molecular weight is 144.476, belongs to hexagonal lattice structure, lattice constant 5.86×10-10m, melting point 1750℃, band gap 2.41 electron volts, electron and hole mobility are 2×10-2 and 2×10-3 m/V · s, respectively, relative dielectric constant 11.6. Cadmium sulfide is a yellow solid, almost insoluble in water, commonly found in sphalerite and wurtzite impurities, which are also the main source of cadmium. As a compound, it is easy to separate and purify.
