Bentonite is a non-metallic mineral with montmorillonite as its main mineral composition. Montmorillonite structure is composed of two silica tetrahedrons sandwiched by a layer of aluminum oxide octahedron2: Type 1 crystal structure, because there are some cations in the layered structure formed by montmorillonite cells, such as Cu, Mg, Na, K, etc., and the interaction of these cations with Montmorillonite cells is very unstable, easy to be exchanged by other cations, so it has good ion exchange.
