3,5-Dinitrobenzoic acid is an organic chemical that is an important corrosion inhibitor and is also used in photography. This aromatic compound is used by chemists to identify alcohol components in esters and in the fluorometric analysis of creatinine.

Storage conditions: Keep container closed when not in use. Store in a cool, dry,  well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Keep containers tightly closed.

Production method

Obtained by nitration of benzoic acid. Add sulfuric acid to a dry reaction pan and stir in benzoic acid. Heat to 60℃, drop fuming nitric acid, drop below 85℃ finished. Reaction at 80-85℃ for 1h, reaction at 100℃ for 0.5-1h, and then reaction at 135℃ for 2h. Leave overnight. The reaction liquid is put into ice water to crystallize, and then filtered, and then washed with water and then washed with 50% ethanol to obtain 3, 5-dinitrobenzoic acid. The yield is 70%.

Use

It is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis for the production of the diagnostic drug pantronic acid. It can also be used as an analytical reagent.
