K 114 is a potent amyloid fibril-specific fluorescent dye. K 114 is a potent amyloid fibril-specific fluorescent dye similar to Congo Red and BSB. K 114 recognizes amyloid lesions and facilitates quantitative monitoring of the formation of amyloid fibrils assembled from the Aβ peptide, α-synuclein, and tau. The affinity for fibrils ranges 20-30 nM. Unlike the other compounds K114 has minimal fluorescence in aqueous buffers, but fluoresces brightly in the presence of amyloid fibrils. K114 can be used to monitor in vitro amyloid fibril formation by fluorescence emission at 550 nm. | [Definition]
ChEBI: (E,E)-1-bromo-2,5-bis-(4-hydroxystyryl)benzene is an organobromine compound that is bromobenzene in which the hydrogens at positions 2 and 5 are replaced by 4-hydroxystyryl groups. It has a role as a fluorescent dye. It is an organobromine compound and a polyphenol. | [Biological Activity]
Potent amyloid fibril-specific fluorescent dye (EC 50 = 20 - 30 nM). Exhibits minimal fluorescence in aqueous buffers and fluoresces brightly in the presence of A β , α -synuclein and tau in situ . (Optimum wavelength = 550 nM). | [storage]
