4-Carboxypropylphenol is a bacterial chlorophyll derivative. | [Synthesis]
4-(4-Methoxyphenyl)butyric acid (25g, 129mmol) was dissolved in 48% HBr (125ml) and AcOH (125ml). The resulting solution was heated at 150°C overnight. The resulting mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was dissolved in EtOAc (500ml). The solution was washed with water (500ml), dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)butanoic acid as a tan solid. |
