5-(2,2,3-Trimethyl-3-cyclopentenyl)-3-methyl-pentan-2-ol is prepared by condensation
of α-campholenaldehyde with methyl ethyl ketone, followed by selective
hydrogenation of the resulting unsaturated ketone.
The title compound can be used either in a pure state or as a mixture with its
isomeric by-product in perfume compositions and soap perfumes.

Sandalore is a property in structure in relation to sandalwood odor. It has been found that hair follicles treated with sandalore increases the expression of the olfactory receptor OR2AT4 resulting in prolongation of the follicles’ growth phase. Sandalore also promotes skin-cell proliferation and wound healing. | [Trade name]

Sandalore is an agonist of olfactory receptor OR2AT4a G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) also expressed in human primary keratinocytes. Sandalore was shown to enhance hair growth in human scalp hair follicles by stimulating OR2AT4resulting in decreased apoptosis and increased production of the anagen-prolonging growth factor IGF-1. Sandalore had previously been shown to increase wound healing. Sandalore was also recently used to study OR2AT4 found in the human chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cell line K562 and in white blood cells of clinically diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients. |
