Sodium metabisulfite (96 g, 507 mmol, 2.0 equiv) was added to a solution of 3-bromo-N1-(5-(tert-butyl)-[1,1′-biphenyl]-2-yl)benzene-1,2-diamine (100 g, 253 mmol, 1.0 equiv) and 3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde (83 g, 355 mmol, 1.4 equiv) in N, N-dimethyl formamide (600 mL). After that, the reaction mixture was heated to 110° C. After 16 hours. Water (900 mL) was added to the cooled reaction mixture. The suspension was filtered and the sticky solid was washed with water (100 mL).
